Following the Code

I Robot – random segments of code grouping together to form what we might call the beginning of sentience. Not programmed, or coded in, but a tangent that develops and takes its own path. Creating those ‘Ghosts in the Machine’ that was part of the whole premise of that film. But if you replace the idea of robots, with people, you could say that it how we develop thought and ideas. We are in groups, in new environments or finding ourselves under different conditions than we have been accustomed to. We change, we adapt and something else happens, that is not usually programmed in.

Matrix – Smith code, absorbed into the ‘body’ of Neo, when he expanded his consciousness and appeared to destroy Smith. And if you think of the characters as parts of one brain, as I now do and as discussed in A Matrix in Mind, then Smith ends up representing people generally, the average Joe, your ordinary self, any old Smith. You can’t be special and ‘The One’, if you believe you are just anyone or no-one.

DNA code – that special strand that hold the information for our entire make-up, the key to our design and programming they say. Reminds me of how they portrayed Superman in Man of Steel, that when he was sent to Earth, the ‘Codex’ for all the engineered people on his home world, was hidden in his DNA. Crossing into the idea perhaps put forward in Prometheus, of something being created, and a substance that seemed to disband and break apart DNA. We seem to spend much time trying to unravel what we are, from a physical perspective anyway.

Codex – the word comes from the Latin (as they all do) Caudex, which means the trunk of a tree or a block of wood. Funny, I as was only rethinking the other day about the wooden men of first creation apparently according to Mayan myth (currently in a work in progress follow-up article to Monkey Puzzle) book of laws / tree trunk

Safe – having a code to get in, the code meaning you can gain access to the valuables inside, whatever that may be. Perhaps that is actually what supercomputers get to work on, breaking that code which will allow access to something deemed valuable, the answer, the goal. To get to that all important number, 42.

And we also have made use of it to mean an agreed upon set of rules. Code of Honour being a good example.

Coding – for all the new-fangled tech, the AI, the systems, the future… apparently. And for a number of years, the tech people and job market couldn’t get enough of talking about coding. How it was the future of everything, send your kids to study it, it will be the job market of the future. That didn’t quite pan out, and only last year AI overtook all that and replaced people before they had even had time to get out there. Keeping the word active, but letting it change meanings and become part of ‘the machine’, which we see as separate from us. We are people, not machine. Yet, sometimes I think we are not so separate, with of their systems based on how life operates and functions, but processed into something mechanical and only based on the perception of what we think we are, for now. And people have likened some seemingly vacant types as NPCs, as if they are an extra side character within the game of life. My article Not Properly Coded took a look at those types, to see what it is that people think is missing in others to give them that label.

So, we follow the coded breadcrumbs, with twists and turns as the drama of humanity unfolds, as we try to get to The Heart of the Matter and understand our individual and collective purposes. Trying to see through the decoys and distractions, of which there are many, for a bit of clarity in amongst all the illusions and programming. There is much to mull over…

The Idea of Real

There are many representations of a simulated ‘life’ in movies and fictional ideas, or at least where that is where they used to be. It seems these days, and possibly for a while, that the idea is not contained within just the thought of a simulation, it has instead escaped and created its own. People now talk about (or at least online they do), about how real life has become a simulated version of what it once was, as discussed in Virtually Real Life. But this article is more a second instalment to Sim City, where I briefly mention some of the films listed here as a point of reference, but shall do so again with a bit more of why they are important for their representation of the idea.

The Matrix – the quintessential go to now when discussing that simulation, and in fact, people now use that word instead, talking about how we are all ‘stuck in The Matrix’. Programs exiled (prison), replicating of their own accord (breeding) – all bound within a simulated reality (society). I can see why it gets likened to it. Did it get its idea from society, or did society get its ideas from there?

The Island – Clones for spare body parts, developed and ‘born’ straight into adulthood and kept in a simulated reality with holograms and lies. A conditioned and monitored existence, farming them for their ultimate purpose as replacement parts. Just a side-step over to what we have now, and getting closer all the time, as discussed in such articles as Perhaps and Med Bed or Death Pod.

Free Guy – programs that ‘evolve’ and create life, also in a simulated reality. Set in a game, like Ready Player One but that was about people on the outside saving that outside, while on the inside. Hackers being in a similar vein although earlier, but thwarting real life villains and plans, by just playing on the computer. I think War Games might be the ultimate one there though, inadvertently causing a disaster instead of discovering it. And I guess an upgrade on Lawnmower Man, although that was a human who ended up integrated and became part of it, so maybe not.

Dark City – simulated reality, memories swapped like a ‘reincarnation’ process, but the city and all its inhabitants and their experiences based on those memories, so that there is something tangible about them. But they are jumbled and distorted, with no-one really knowing who they are, where they are or where they are from, and just getting on with that as if it has always been so. It’s a strange film, and quite disturbing really.

And I always then start thinking of the Orphan trains, mentioned in A Train of Thought – where I wonder about it being a collective start or a cover story. Is it possible that, too, is a false reality that started the simulation? We were given a collective story about a flood, next time a ‘black plague’, the next batch were told of a war, a natural disaster, a godly smiting, a virus, and so on. Where each time memories resurface or a knowing comes back, it’s time to shake it up again, to cause confusion and mayhem like in So Simple, to stop people having time to think, to settle or to look beyond what has been laid out in front of you. And maybe there isn’t anything else to know, and we are just where we are through good old fashioned fate and fortune, we shall see…

As It Seems

Again, this one is based purely on what I see ‘on the internet’, one of my speculatory and theoretical ideas. Crossing over into a number of previously written articles, as does happen. Threads weaving themselves together in this rather bizarre tapestry being created.

The footage was run of the mill and a newer version of a previously viewed scenario. ‘Fighting age men’ being shown in a cafeteria or ‘mess hall’, smiling, having their three meals a day and luxuries to keep them happy, secure, and entertained. With even a casual (apparently in jest) comment from Edwina Curry about the possible need for brothels to be provided for these groups.

And when I have glanced at the footage before and read the comments, it does indeed appear to be a ‘backup army’ of sorts. Which is where a flag went up. Everything is so neat, the footage, the stories, the presentation of it. How many things ‘appear’ as they are meant to, but are indeed quite different.

To put it bluntly, my view this time was the idea of a turkey farm, where they fatten the birds up before Christmas. The care, the attention, the fawning over your new ‘subjects’ and treating them like gold. And of course, it could well be that they are indeed a mercenary force, waiting for the time and signal to cause extra mayhem and fear.

Yet, given what else we have seen of late with the ideas of organ harvesting, also covered in Perhaps, I couldn’t unsee it. Those warehouses for the living dead weren’t rows of pods anymore. They were villages, towns, and cities. And these ‘new arrivals’ seem like they would be a perfect source for that, all in their set areas, being fed the food they want you to eat, keeping you healthy and fit. And as mentioned in And The Purpose Is? As well as Moving People Around and The IPA’s, would anyone notice if a few hundred migrants went missing? Or more? With all the relocations, separations, and confusion around Who’s Who? and from where, it seems certain opportunists would take advantage of that. And no-one would notice or care because we are on high alert from potential looming threats we are told about and shown. Or given just enough information to form an opinion about its projected path, completely overlooking or ignoring its actual trajectory or potential for it to go that way. But like I have said before, all could be exactly as it seems, and there is no need at all for thoughts of a grisly or sinister nature, perhaps I’m just cynical. Either that, or I’m not quite cynical enough, we shall see…
