This is one of those strange ones, of what should perhaps be festive thoughts and ideas, but which took a rather dark turn. Thinking of times past, and how once people used to decorate a tree at Christmas to ward off evil spirits, only since the 1600’s they say, it can’t really be traced to before then. Leading me to thoughts of fireplaces, and recently have seen talk of the more elaborate ones found in grand settings, possibly being portals. So I wondered, about the open fireplace being a portal into the home, protected maybe only by the intention of those within, with charms and spells featuring throughout folklore and mythological history.
So, the thought moved on from Christmas, to the idea of vampires – and how they needed to be invited over the threshold they say, not able to gain access until you give them permission. You might see where this is going, but I will go there anyway. What if in the past, with people understanding more about evil and entities, could guard themselves against these things, and not be affected or infiltrated as much. But then time drifts on and people forget if they do not see, and a new time moves in. Of commercialism and consumerism, surely an opportunity to resurrect something that once was? Where you can take the blood red and turn it into clothing, and surround it with a story of something that will come into your house while you sleep, but only if you put out the decorations, and milk and cookies. Inviting it through the portal. And even one step further, with the ritual of presents and writing a letter to santa, signifying an exchange, and a contract for that exchange. Selling your soul for presents. A rather cynical look at it of course, as it could just as easily be said it is a ‘good’ contract, for worthy behaviour to be rewarded. But when it appears to be for grooming purposes in reality, to encourage greed and consumerism under the guise of kindness and family, I can’t help but think that it has been hijacked for a darker purpose than it appears.
And generally children are told not to talk to strangers, or accept presents from them, but when it comes to santa and Christmas, that goes out the window. I have never been comfortable with the whole thing, and clearly it has become a commercial enterprise over the last 100 years, but as with much, it seems to be a cover for a set ritual, and one the western world has been captured by. And as others have also pointed out over the years, santa just happens to be an anagram of a well know demon, an entity “that seduces humans into sin or falsehood“. Sometimes they say if there are a number of coincidences, then it is not a coincidence at all. But then again, it could just be seeing what we want to see they say. Although personally until recently, I very much enjoyed celebrating Christmas for the food, presents, decorations and as they call it ‘feeling festive’. But it has waned of late somewhat, and I do not feel that my energy should be directed towards it anymore, maybe that’s just a normal thing, growing out of the set routine that you can see is set for businesses making money and controlling peoples time, not about creating a genuine feeling. If there ever was such a thing for that time of year, we shall never know, but for what it has become I think I am happy to leave it behind…
Vampires, but this time, a bit more as you know them. Literature and films have done much to make us aware of them, what they are and how they are apparently above us in the ‘food chain’ and what their ‘habits and weaknesses’ are. My previous article They are vampires, but not as you know it speculated on them being energy harvesters, rather than the old fashioned portrayal, but that is where it begins, with the old fashioned view.
Dracula – the book as I haven’t seen the film, but same premise I believe. An ancient blood drinking evil in the form of a human, mingling amongst its food and being hunted when its true nature is revealed.
There are also many stories and legends around Europe about vampires and blood drinking demons, with the above being centred about Transylvania in Romania.
The Lost Boys – A modern take on them, bringing them into now and making them cool and trendy.
Blade – Another one with an ultra-modern overtone, with trendy clothes, music, fast-paced and violent. Definitely catering to a market, and slightly different maybe as that one came from the comic book world.
Near Dark – an interesting, back road vampire story. Of how they can just drift along through society, not really standing out as long as you blend in.
From Dusk til Dawn – not what I was expecting at all as a film, but gave more of a demonic inhuman makeup to the vampire that other movies hadn’t really. The exterior flesh reflecting the monster within once exposed.
Interview with a vampire – a good representation of how an immortal could slip through the ages, changing with the times and showing only what was needed to get by. Then being the only one to go into the future knowing others are long since dead.
Twilight – haven’t seen it, but the way it was talked about and fawned over online, made me think it was just another new trendy version for the next generation.
And really, isn’t that the fountain of youth? The key to being immortal. They always say that whoever found the fountain of youth, would quite probably keep it to themselves, not wanting to share that kind of power. But what if that fountain also needed to be maintained, with a steady stream of young blood? You wouldn’t want everyone knowing about it, because you would face problems on a few points, firstly you wouldn’t be able to decide who will be there with you when everyone else is gone. And secondly, you wouldn’t want too many immortals, otherwise there may not be enough to ‘feed’ to the fountain. Which places us as their food source.
Suddenly sounds very similar to rituals we are told were performed in certain ancient civilisations, blood-letting, bathing in blood, sacrifices and mass graves. The killing of their own, apparently. Which may well have happened, as they say, just as an appeasement to god, or whatever they believed it was for. But what if those graves were the ‘leftovers and rubbish’ just as we say when we find old pits from previous times. How would you know years later if they had been drained of blood?
If it is an elixir though, then adrenochrome makes more sense, and why it’s taken from the young by the old. They might just not look that old if they are rejuvenating themselves. Saying it’s surgery or just disappearing from public view if it starts to become too obvious. Remember that film Death Becomes Her, with the potion? Well, they never really specify what it is or where it comes from.
How we use blood within society from a medical perspective, could easily have another world harvesting and controlling certain blood for another purpose running alongside it, might almost go unnoticed. There have been many things revealed lately about the true horrors that we live around, not safely tucked away in films you can just switch off, or a book you put down and walk away from, even if they do give us hints at what really is there. But existing alongside us nonetheless, where we can’t just turn it off or walk away. Many things have taken rather a demonic turn, so I don’t think it’s unreasonable to give some thought to why that is…
It isn’t by accident we think of a bloodsucking Dracula, or Nosferatu, or more modern renditions like blade, or twilight when the word vampire is mentioned. They can only prowl at night (apart from the day-walker concept in blade of course), an aversion to garlic, holy water etc. The origin of a vampire type entity seems to go way back to an ancient Egyptian god called Sekhmet. Having such an extreme lust for blood after almost wiping out all of humanity, she was then tricked by Ra using blood coloured alcohol to lure her in. And after getting drunk, she stood down and peacefully left humans alone. How that one hasn’t been made into a movie, I don’t know, but seems to qualify as a vampire by the original standard.
But what if a vampire is a good description for them. Only they steal and drain your energy instead of blood? (And in some cases, may actually have a requirement for blood talked about in More like us than we would like). I used to refer to people as social vampires when coming home from being out during my sociable years, and rather than feeling energised and like you had had a good time, it was the opposite. And after narrowing it down, realised it was certain people who would contribute to that feeling, and others that did the opposite. But on a bigger scale, if you realise your energy is being taken from you by people using various methods, two things should be considered. 1) Where does the energy go and what for? 2) Who or what needs it?
Another thing that started to make me think of the real concept of vampire, is the incessant need for people to volunteer for things that appear to give away their freedom or soul. You must consent. You must be a volunteer, rather than a victim. They need you to invite them in, I am not sure why, but it seems to be a theme that you have to sell your soul willingly, it can’t just be taken. Is that why we have that saying ‘selling your soul’, because it does indeed represent something quite real and tangible? Perhaps. So much that was once foolish to consider, now seems almost perilous not to. There is so much at stake here (no pun intended), we can’t afford to not cover all bases. And maybe their new digital ID travel method they would like to roll out, which requires a drop of your blood for screening, has another purpose. As if they are looking for something and testing the DNA of everyone hasn’t yielded the results they were after, so they have to find another way to monitor and find what they want. That shall remain to be seen.
I will continue to think through what may seem ridiculous and far-fetched. Pulling together ideas, plot lines and theories and putting them out there. But it should be clear to many that we are in danger, individually and as a group, and should have our wits about us and senses on alert. Who knows what is really going on and coming up, but it can’t hurt to consider it all.
