Keeping Up With The Joneses

What is it that defines what you think you should have? Personal wants, preferences, and desires are all built around your personality and model of thinking and feeling they say. Ego also plays a pivotal role. But at what point does admiration become envy, and why in some does it take that step over the fine line to jealousy? Sometimes then taking on an extra competitive edge, covered slightly in Who’s Got The Biggest… And of course, general conditioning can’t be overlooked. What you see and absorb throughout your life, and all the influences within that play a part really do help to create and nurture the desire aspect needed for it to become so ingrained, it becomes a way of life and as the mindset of the masses.

Consumerism and Social Status in particular have a leading role. To create the class system of separation and a desire to be something else, to help with that social pecking order we have. But first you need people to want that, to want to ‘Keep up with the Joneses’, and base what they think they want, on what someone else has or on what they appear to have or be. Not even knowing perhaps if that person too is trying to keep up with someone else and isn’t even being themselves. And it’s taken an even stranger turn, with jealousy and ego combining to create a rather psychologically unstable ‘admirer’ of what you are. Almost as if being ‘better than’ isn’t on the cards anymore, it seems to be turning into ‘existing instead of’. Where a Single White Female type ends up so detached from themselves, and so desperate to be something else, I guess they start hating and becoming obsessional over that which they covet. Revealing that ugly and hateful feelings can often be under the surface of what appears to be admiration.

But in order to get people to play the game of wanting more, or to be something else, you first need people to be aware of what they could be having, or doing, or wanting. Don’t get me wrong, I believe inspiration is a good thing, and looking at what others are or what they have is normal in my opinion, to understand what it is you actually want or to be. But is it perhaps that inspiration and reality are at quite opposite ends of the spectrum for some, and if you do not have a realistic attitude of ability or skillset, then I guess it leaves a rather wide gap for things like envy to rear its head in some people. And then spill over into jealousy and go on to cause all sorts different behaviours and thoughts based on either the delusion that gets mentally put in place, or the hatred of the reality that is understood. Either of those scenarios often seems to bring an awful lot of trouble with it.

But it has been encouraged for the longest time now, to sell products, lifestyles, dreams and ideas of what you think could be, conveniently often not factoring in what you already are, and often they are other people’s dreams and ideas. And for some that will be enough, looking to something else to give you all the ideas and lead you, and for someone else to tell you who to be and facilitate that. But sometimes I can’t help thinking it’s better to have your own ideas and dreams, and most of all, know who you are…

A Visual Deception

This idea probably ties in to my article Is Blue the Original Green?, and is perhaps a follow on from How It Looks From The Inside, as that was from an overall, bigger picture view and idea, of the entire expanse of space being a projection beyond where we are. This one is focusing on a more local deception, and I will use a few films (as also noted in the other article), as reference for where it ‘appears’ you can deceive people visually, which then helps to reinforce the mental belief that it’s real.

The Island – there was a holographic ‘outside’ which simulated an above surface contained environment, there were a number of lies holding that place together, and with most delicate scenarios, once one gets revealed, it can cause a chain reaction.

Resident Evil – in the first film, they showed the underground Hive where the employees worked, with a fake view of a city and a blue sky as a picture on the outside of the windows. To stop the workers getting jittery I suppose, but we all know what was really down there and what they should have been jittery about.

Ascension – an entire ‘spaceship’ was deceived into thinking they were travelling through space with a full view of the outside, and suffering from events and catastrophes within the contained environment. It was a weird series to be honest, with many layers of psychological issues and behaviour that is allowed to develop within the ‘ranks’ on ship. Preset roles and rules they were given and kept to it. But, behind that, it turns out the project actually stole very bright children, tricked them, lied to them, so they could use them for an experiment to bring about an evolutionary advancement. Like I said, weird but a good watch.

Star Trek Insurrection – the holodeck, used to great purpose in the film to relocate the people of a planet without them being aware of it, so they can steal the resources of the planet which happen to keep you young and increase your lifespan by hundreds of years. Similar perhaps to what we feel like has happened to us I guess, where we are told of brighter times and kingdoms, things were bigger, we had magic and could live rather long lives. And then it seems it was corrupted, and here we are.

Many people have now worked out how screens are being used to heavily manipulate what we think we see and know, and have done for a while from media and television. Showing you what they want you to see, creating the ‘reality’ they want you to think exists so you start living as if it does, which then can help to create it. A disturbing loop we are part of. But newspapers and propaganda peddlers have always been there to try and get to you, and lay the foundations for a certain way of thought to take hold and then keep you in that loop. Being stoked and agitated when needed for cause and effect, and of course to implement the social changes required by the few for the many. If people can start to see through the Characters of Illusion, then maybe they stand a chance at noticing the overall deception, we will see…

Suspended Reality

When you suspend your own reality, willingly entering a suspended reality created by someone or something else. Kind of like dreaming perhaps, but in a waking state, where you’re just the bystander to someone else’s dream. And I wonder if that’s how or why we are so taken with screens and the crafted script they convey, because it creates a similar feeling to the one we get from dreaming. I have already written a few articles about Dreams and thoughts within that, A Quantum Leap, In Dreams, Dreamy, or Terrifying? and Are you Dreaming?.

But what if that state of mind or ‘reality’ could be induced in your waking life, by way of entertainment, media, propaganda and conditioning. Many people have said sometimes through life that it seems as if it is a dream, or surreal, or that something doesn’t feel real. As well as things like The Matrix films portraying well in visual format, the idea that you could go your whole life not knowing which state you are in. And one becomes the other and you would never know which one was reality, so you just go with whichever one you think is correct perhaps. But with a nagging sensation that all is not as it seems.

On both Alice in Wonderland, and The Wizard of Oz, Alice and Dorothy were both portrayed as having dreamed both places, one while napping and the other while having a fever. Yet, the sequel for Dorothy revealed that it was not a dream, and while being incarcerated in a mental asylum to give her ECT in order to rid her of these ‘dreams’, she is taken back to Oz. Giving us an idea of how people get treated if they stray from the script we are supposed to be following. Nothing fantastical or magical allowed, only mundane and ordinary, and only be creative if it can be portrayed as fiction it seems. And even for Alice, the remake showed a return to Wonderland, and that it wasn’t all just a dream or a nightmare after all, but part of a reality that isn’t merged with ours, but sits alongside it. Or underneath it in that case.

But if we are able to suspend our own reality for the sake of fiction, could it be that fiction at some point becomes what we deem ‘real’, and we are not sure what is to be suspended anymore when it comes to conscious processing of what we think is real. Another of those prophetic things Morpheus comes out with “What is real?”, and of course I’m sure many have asked themselves, and possibly others that very question along the way. Some learning to keep quiet once they saw where you got sent for ‘experiments and reeductation’ if you didn’t follow the party line of society. Seems know we know more about the mechanisms of how they keep the mainstream narrative though and keep people from asking too many questions out loud. By ridiculing, punishing, isolating and demoralising people who question, or understand, or know more than they perhaps should.

Seems like an age-old formula they wheel out again and again to steer the prevailing ideas and ideals of people, but as with most things, only works if the people fall for it, and a great weakness in people seems to be ego and what others think. Peer pressure has been a tool used for good and bad, but not all are susceptible, and therefore it seems to fit neatly they would then have a back-up plan of harsher penalties and incentives for not telling the truth. Or even being able to discuss what the truth might be, because it would destabilise the whole system of ‘reality’ as we have been taught. So, it stays in little pockets, kept in mind and contained within an illusionary vault that has a very small and narrow path to daylight, with security systems to stop it, people to thwart it and divert it. But as it gathers pace, it starts to build and get stronger pushing all in its path out of the way, because as the saying goes, ‘the truth will out’…

A Giant Debate

Trees are quite a spectacular part of our ecosystem, and generally as a plant they have a great purpose and seem to be as under attack as much as the rest of nature. In my previous article about Trees, I mention just a few of the different types, two of which I have seen myself, the Banyan and the Baobab trees. But there is another I have also seen in person I realise I failed to mention, and that is the Giant Sequioa Forest in California. It really is a sight to behold, and makes you feel very tiny, although I was a child, so was pretty small at the time anyway, but they were epic.

There is talk though, of there being a time when things were much bigger, of Giants and megafauna and flora. Some of which has evidence showing it was once here or is available if you go looking, and some has been lost or is hidden if perhaps it raises what might be seen as ‘too many questions’. But occasionally there is something there to debate, or dismiss, depending on your viewpoint and reasoning. Devils Tower in Wyoming is a good example of this, where many people say it is evidence of a giant tree, and that is the remaining stump showing having been fossilised. Another theory is that it’s veins of what was once a living creature or animal or giant. And what the accepted theory says, is that it is natural rock formations from volcanic and tectonic activity around 40 million years ago. Either way, it looks a bit out of place on the landscape and sticks out enough to be a point of discussion. And whether it is remnants of a giant tree, creature or just volcanic, it shouldn’t dismiss from the idea that there was a time before of much larger things.

But it’s not just trees, or possible bones that people hold up as a reason for questioning. It’s the large buildings, doorways, measurements in travellers’ tales and old stories generally that seem literally riddled with ideas and mention of things we are taught to scoff at today. They say things get bigger with a higher cO2 level, so could it be that when it was warmer and greener, things were able to reach what we might call, their full potential? And currently we are perhaps in a stunted phase, and still in the ice-age in reality, or a cold period which keeps everything down. I have a few wonderings on what might have occurred in the past to keep things like that hidden, or not even hidden, just not taught, so they fade as common knowledge and become only for the few. To then wield or withhold later when needed, or perhaps they too forget and much gets lost altogether, with no-one to understand what they are looking at anymore they just ignore it or destroy it, and then time serves to bury it. As it will with all of us one day, but until that day the questions continue…
