Homemade Cosmetics – recipes

As well as trying to get better and more proficient in baking and making healthier food, I decided along the way to try and use other homemade things. It’s not just food and drink that goes into our systems, it’s what we also put on our skin. So, thought it might be useful to have alongside my MKW Recipes for food, that I should have a handy post for the cosmetics, as well as the one I already have for dandelion infused ones. As with the food one, i’ll add to this as I find new combos or ideas.

Mango Butter Moisturiser Recipe

I’ve been making a few moisturisers here and there, and as they last a while, takes some time to get around to needing a new one. But that time came, so I decided to make a predominantly mango butter one. For one pot like the one in the photo (around 2oz), the amounts are –

25g Mango Butter

8g Shea Butter

1 tbsp geranium infused coconut oil

1 tbsp calendula infused olive oil

10 drops jasmine essential oil

10 drops sweet orange essential oil

The method can be viewed in my Dandelion Moisturiser recipe.

Homemade lavender moisturiser – recipe

I decided I would make another moisturiser to go with my dandelion one. A nighttime one of lavender, chamomile and coconut I thought would be nice. Very simple to make.

32g shea butter

1 tbsp lavender infused in olive oil

1/2 tbsp chamomile infused in coconut oil

1/2 tbsp lavender infused in coconut

10 drops of lavender essential oil

Melt ingredients together in a double boiler, adding the oil at the end when all melted. Pour into a glass dish, and set in fridge for 6-8 hours. It may go a bit soft again in warm weather, but then sets again. (It’s important to set in the fridge first otherwise the mix can separate.

Here is the recipe for the Dandelion Moisturiser if you would like that one too.

Homemade dandelion moisturiser – recipe

On a bit of a mish for making things. Decided to go for moisturiser, having never really liked shop bought I tend to avoid it, but with making my own flower oils now, thought why not.

Only 4 ingredients. And a nice glass pot I found on ebay for not very much!

32g Shea Butter

1 tbsp dandelion infused oil

1 tbsp coconut oil

10 drop of essential oil – I’m pretty sure more than 10 hurtled out of the bottle, but it seemed ok.

(I chose orange essential oil for this one having bought a small selection last week).

Melt together in a double boiler and stir in the essential oil after, then pour into the glass jar and put in the fridge to set overnight (or for 6-8 hours), apparently setting it in the fridge bit is important, as it prevents is separating when it softens.

It does go quite soft once out of the fridge, but can be kept at room temperature and they say lasts for around 6 months. A small amount go a long way.
