Large Red Damselfly

My previous garden (by about 4), had a small well established pond and beautiful mature garden bringing in so much wildlife it was amazing to me. During the spring damselflies were appearing everyday as well as dragonflies. It took me a few days to realise they were emerging from the pond! I’ll do another post of one I caught in the act – quite a sight I must say. This one stopped for a mini photo shoot.

The time to question… (poetry)

The time to question

Has come and gone

Each day does pass

And life goes on

They keep on pushing

And want to snap

The will and hope

By setting a trap

But mostly folk

Are tired and strained

So much is lost

And little was gained

How could we have

Known to preempt

We’d be treated

With such contempt

By our own no less

The ones we chose

Who stole our lives

And won’t disclose

The truth

Bismuth Abstract

Was having some fun with photography that wasn’t nature, I had forgotten how much fun it can be to just play around. Between working, writing, painting, playing with my dog and general tasks and life, it’s not always easy to find the time or to be in the mood for it. Colours, props, lighting and trying different angles. Funnily enough, the short time I was at art college a long time ago now, photography week was the only one I was in attendance for every day!

I give you – Bismuth.

Further down is an animated version 🙂

Nigella Flower

Such a pretty flower that seems to go by many names. Love-in-the-mist and ragged lady I guess you could think ok, strange naming but ok. But Devil in the bush, not sure how that one transpired. Hoping to have more of these growing this year.

Grass Snake in the pond

There have been many great opportunities to get photos of nature when often it is just there. No looking needed. They come to me. If you have a pond (or had use of one like I did), it’s awesome finding new things and seeing new visitors each day. Sometimes birds stopping for a bath, dragonflies passing through, newts and various insects and spiders.

But one day, there was something else. I bigger head and pair of eyes than I was used to, and may have thought it was a frog at first glance. Then it lifted it’s head a bit. I have to admit I turned towards the house and shouted ‘Quick, grab my camera, it’s a fucking snake!’. And it was.

Luckily he was curious and moved into a better position for a moment. I felt very lucky that day.

In this place… (poetry)

In this place

We have arrived

How it occurred

Was so contrived

Mingling all the

Lies and fact

Planning predicting

How we’d react

The more we agreed

The tighter the screws

They don’t want us

Being able to choose

But we are not property

Or theirs to rewrite

So some are compelled

To stand up and fight

Resisting the storm

The pressure is high

To end this debacle

We can only try

Rhyme and Reason

Painting – Cherry trees

Trying out some new things, I suddenly decided I wanted to paint cherry trees. The full blossoming kind, you know the ones. And yes, it was a good excuse to use the shimmery pink. But I was quite pleased with myself. It’s a new experience for me being able to recreate in visual format what it is in my head. Drawings are different and dont start with any kind of plan. Painting is now my favourite.
