He got into a hotel. ran up the stairs. He fought his way past screaming guests and staff, climbed the fence to get further. The dust got thicker. People more scarce. A piccolo coughing in a corner. A cleaner crying, praying. He covered his mouth with his shirt, his lungs could hardly breath. Some shadows running by, screaming, coughing. Falling bricks and blocks crushing their way towards the ground. Somewhere above daylight pierced through the concrete fog surrounding him. Above him floated a monster, a ghostlike female of destruction. She stared into nothing, beyond it all, as if she was longing, searching for something that wasn’t there.
We walk in numbers
With hand on heart
An unknown journey
Where to start
Faith and dreams
Can lead us through
Know yourself
To others be true

This was a random find, my husband actually recorded it for me as he knows despite many films and years, The Goonies is still my favourite, followed closely by Time Bandits and Super 8. So any adventure film gets mentioned, but not all get watched to the end. Of late I have watched some terrible films and just wanted something to entertain me and hold my interest. The Kid Who Would Be King did just that.
A slightly fresher idea for the King Arthur legend compared the other Arthur based films recently, this was full of adventure, some mild peril and fun enough to keep me watching. The cast were well picked and did a good job, I look forward to seeing more of Louis and Dean, they were great. And Angus Imrie as young Merlin was just a delight (as much as it is to watch his mother on TV too – and I was luckily enough to catch her at the theater years ago), a most enjoyable watch. Another gem from director Joe Cornish (Attack the Block).
So if you are looking for a fun afternoon gallivanting around the English countryside with swords and a destiny, then this is the film for you.

When we realised there was a difference in how we thought and general processes of the mind, I had no idea what it would lead to. It seemed like a small thing at first, he didn’t visualise anything in mind, or dream, or imagine. Anything. At all. Aphantasia. I do, almost constantly in fact. Hyperphantasia. Both at either end of a newly termed spectrum. It explained a lot. And so I found my way to understanding this difference a bit more and to write about how it affects us, how our perspectives of life differ more than we ever thought, and just how it has impacted our understanding of each other.
You know when dogs do that thing that people refer to as ‘a funny five minutes’? Well, ours seems to love having these more often than not, and they are a delight to watch. Finally captured some of one on film!
