Nasturtium Red

These are lovely plants. Bright, colourful and tasty. Yes, you can eat them! Apparently they have a peppery flavour, of which I haven’t tasted yet. I prefer to plant and leave them for the caterpillars. Small and Large whites absolutely love them. The butterflies lay their eggs on the underside of the leaves, then steadily munch their way through them when they hatch. It’s really cool to see it all happen 🙂

I try each day… (poetry)

I try each day

To keep my cool

While treated like

A child and fool

Reminding me

Of being grounded

No fun, no friends

Completely hounded

On the whim

Of ones deranged

Drunk in their power

They have changed

And taken over

Each thought and act

Of our lives

But it’s a fact

That really we

Can’t stay like this

We want to live

Not merely exist

Rhyme and Reason – Vol 1 (2018) – Volume 2 coming soon…

Mosasaurus jaw

This is part of my fossil collection. The teeth have been inset into a plaster jaw to show what it would have looked like, so only partially a fossil really. But still I love it. One of the aquatic reptiles, the mosasaurs apparently lived between 82 – 66 million years ago and was said to be larger than the megalodon! Their remains were first discover in 1764 in the Netherlands while chalk quarrying. Amazing to think how much history and awesome things are hidden beneath our feet, lots of them found only through industry and destruction of what is there is now – so it’s hard to decide if things should be left or we should be looking? Some of them though will never to be discovered. Funny to think how many times we may have started digging, not knowing that two foot to the left there was something incredible…

It’s like in a story… (poetry)

It’s like in a story

A fairy tale

While evil reigns

Can good prevail

We watch and hope

On the edge of our seat

Wanting to know

We can defeat

The darkness coming

Across the land

While trying our best

To understand

What happens next

We just don’t know

We’re told to wing it

Just go with the flow

But now the flow

Is just too weird

It makes no sense

And is being steered

Into the abyss
